2016 Website Update & The Future of This Website

9 Dec

Wow, I can’t believe it has been 4 years since I last posted on this website. When I first posted on here I never thought it would ever have as much traffic as it did. When I checked up on it after all this time I was shocked that the year I started the blog, it got over 7 thousand views. That is mind boggling, that if I stayed around I could have created a small community of like minded people. Oh well I can’t go to the past to change things.

First things first, I would like to tell whoever is still following this blog that I have changed my passion from programming to photography, travel, and film. I have created a website where I post the places I traveled to. You can find it at Just because I switched passions doesn’t mean that I have completely departed from my past. I have used my knowledge to self-host my own blog and optimize it with seo and social media.

Now what will happen with this site? Well after seeing the massive response, I know that people want to see more content like this. So I plan to move all the articles from this website to a different website, There I will continue to add more content. In addition to the freebie lists that you love, I will also add other content like how to do certain things using WordPress, ways to optimize seo, ways to optimize website loading times, photography, film making, graphic design, and video editing just to name a couple. Think of it as a website that you would send your non-techy friend because it is written and explained in a easy to understand manner.

As for this website I don’t know if I’ll post different kinds of content on here, only time will tell. I’ll keep you updated on it. So go to and subscribe to be notified when new posts are availble. My first task is to import the articles from this site and rewrite them so they are still relevant. I’ll see you on my other website.

What’s Up With My Websites

27 Apr

I know I promised you guys to blog during my spring break, but unfortunately I did not. During this time I was just lazy and didn’t do much. I have planned to make this blog hosted on to be my personal blog where I write about stuff like the courses I am taking at Mozilla’s P2PU or show you projects that I hope to work on. My other blog will be the one that will house my tutorials and screencasts. I have the tools and software I need I just have not done it. On joseiscoding I will also use it to experiment with design of the site. Well that’s all the update for now….until next time.

P2PU – Choosing My Editor

10 Mar

Here is another installment of my P2PU activity. This time I was asked to blog about the text editor I have chosen to use for writting code. There we many to choose from including Dreamweaver CS5, Eclipse, Komodo Edit, Intype, Notepad++, Notepad 2, Geany, Aptana, gVim, and Emacs.

I have used all of these editors in the past and they all have their ups and downs. I stayed away from gVim and Emacs because they are too powerful for what I want to do, and they have a high leaning curve. If you guys are willing to put in the effort then by all means use those editors, but for me I wanted to focus on coding and not learning how to use another piece of software.

I did not go with Dreamweaver CS5, even though it is already installed on my computer, because I feel that it is too bloated. Sometimes you just want to use software that loads fast and gets the job done. Don’t get me wrong Dreamweaver is a great peice of software, but I prefer something else.

The reason why I didn’t choose Eclipse or Aptana Studio was because they are IDEs and just like Dreamweaver they offer me more than I need in a text editor. If I was a java developer or other major programing language developer then I might consider them, but for now I am only working with HTML and CSS so I don’t need all those extras.

Komodo Edit, Intype, Notepad++, Notepad 2, Geany are great free editors to use. I ended up choosing Notepad++ because I loved how it started up fast, was very minimal, and had plugin abilities. The plugins that I enjoyed are the zen coding, tab expander, and the ftp client.

If you guys from P2PU are looking for a text editor I recommend Notepad++ and if you don’t like it and also don’t want a bulky editor then I recommend you look at Intype, Notepad 2, or Geany (Intype is still in development so it may be unstable, but its worth a look at).

My First Post

28 Feb

Welcome to My New Blog

Well actually this isn’t my first time blogging or using WordPress. In the past I actually had blogs, but I never continued to post on them. They had custom themes that I made and were hosted on the sever of my choice, it was all good. Well why don’t I do that again? Well, back then I was a high school and now I am in college. Even though it is just community college I still need to save as much money as I can for when I transfer in 3 years. So maybe down the line I could transfer this blog to a server and get a .com domain name.

What is This Blog About?

I have thought long and hard about that question. I like showing people new stuff I find on the web, creating screen casts, and talking about web design and development. I couldn’t decide on only one so I have decide… to blog about them all. This way there will always be a constant stream of blogs for you guys to read and enjoy.

Are There Any Benefits for Reading This Blog?

Before I answer this question I need to tell you guys something. I am stingy with my money. I will do anything to save some dollars in the process. With this down economy I am guessing that you too are tight with your money. Do worry I am here to help. Just like many of I like free stuff, and guess what… the internet is full of it. Free fonts, PSDs, tools, photos, and icons are just the beginning. I will make sure to give my readers valuable links to where they can get this stuff for… wait for it… absolutely free. Also since I am a web design I would try to post free downloads that I create.

What Can You Do To Make Sure You Don’t Miss Anything?

Make sure to subscribe to my RSS feed. If you don’t know what that is the solution is to subscribe to my email thingy. Using these tools you can always be the first to know what I post. What you don’t like using your email or using RSS feeds (I thought of that too), I also have a twitter account where I will be tweeting links about what I find and post about.

Do You Expect Anything From Us?

What I want in return for all of this stuff I will be providing you with is on thing, your opinion. I want you guys to tell me what you honesty think about my article (No Trolling Allowed), and the designs I make and Post. That way I will know what you like and become a better web designer at the same time. Also remember to send me links about things (images, articles, websites, videos, freebies, etc.) that I should share with the rest of my readers.

Bye, Bye

Well that’s it for my first post. You are now probably considering to become a frequent reader, if not here is something to convince you. I will be making a YouTube channel where you will be able to find all my screencasts. That’s right I knew you couldn’t resist YouTube. This is the real end of my post… no this is… okay, bye until next time.
